Let's begin with an anecdote: Sarah, an HVAC field service technician, is called to repair a complex industrial air conditioning unit at a major client's facility. Sarah has extensive experience but hasn't worked on this specific model before.
Upon arrival, she consults the instruction manual provided by the manufacturer. Unfortunately, the manual is filled with jargon, poorly organized sections, and unclear diagrams. The troubleshooting steps are buried in dense paragraphs of text, making it challenging for Sarah to locate the information she needs.
Despite her expertise, Sarah spends hours deciphering the manual, trying to follow the convoluted instructions. She attempts several repairs based on her interpretation of the steps, but the unit fails to function correctly. Frustrated, Sarah kicks the unit, and the air conditioning on Floor 23 goes out entirely.
The air soon becomes sweltering, and the employees show visible signs of discomfort. It doesn't take long until they go completely feral and start ransacking other floors in the building. The mayhem makes national news, with one major outlet describing the incident as the worst central air-related disaster in recent memory. The bad press leads to unprecedented lows in employee satisfaction and highs in workplace safety complaints. It takes years for the company to get over the AC incident on Floor 23.
