Free Your Gatekeepers: Build Your Knowledge Base

I'd like to discuss something I've seen happen multiple times over the last month.

Let's start with a question:

How many projects have you seen start with the best of intentions of keeping all stakeholders in the loop, only to find there are mission-critical gatekeepers of knowledge a few weeks in? If you've been in the knowledge working field for any length of time, surely you've seen this play out.

Progress slows, these key individuals become swamped, and nobody is happy.

Instead of reliving this again, start building a knowledge base early.

Don't add articles you think will be used. Only add knowledge when a human asks another human a question question. When the question is asked, ensure an article is written!

By documenting answers and sharing that knowledge, silos break down, and the project becomes far less likely to be reliant on key persons.
